How to plan your own wine tasting party!

When organizing your wine tasting, it’s a good idea to choose different styles of wine to compare but remember to not make it too complicated. A blind tasting is fun and allows folks to taste and compare the wines equally. Number the wines and then create a tasting notes sheet for each number. For beginners it is helpful to included  many aromas, flavors and adjectives to assist in their descriptions.

Trying out the same grape or grape blend from different regions makes for a fun party.  You will find that everyone in your group has quite a different palate and opinion on what they enjoy most.

I suggest starting off by comparing a fresh, steel barrel chardonnay such as ours against a more mature oak-aged chardonnay from Napa Valley.

You could even take it a step further and through in a chardonnay from France where the grape originated.  What you will learn is that the same grape grown in different regions is very diverse.

For Reds you might want to try comparing our new Estate Reserve River Red a beautifully balanced Bordeaux blend of 50% merlot, 25% Malbec and 25% Cabernet which has been aged 2 years in French oak to a Bordeaux blend from France and/or Napa. While most Bordeaux blends are primarily comprised of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc with smaller portions of Malbec and Petit Verdot, many wine makers from different regions develop their own unique blend.

Most Importantly, just have fun!

Cheers!
