New Year New Me!
01/10/2022

You might me thinking, like myself….New Year…New Me!

Many people have overindulged on food and wine/alcohol over the holidays including myself and they start to wonder if they should stop drinking altogether.  Dry January is a thing!  Our struggles with food and alcohol are real and can really mess with our brain.  Instead of Dry January, I say, let’s all practice eating and drinking with our health in mind.  It has been proven that a glass of red wine per day is good for your health, especially for women.

Is dinking wine good for a woman’s health?

You might associate a glass of wine with a girl’s night out or a way to relax at the end of a long day…but you can link it to your health as well.  Wine plays a big role in your health in good and bad ways.

Protect Your Heart

Antioxidants known as flavonoids found in red wine might help protect women from cardiovascular disease.  Flavonoids come from the skin of the grapes.  According to Yale-New Haven Hospital, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Syrah and Pinot Noir have the highest concentration of flavonoids.  In another study, published in 2011 in the “Journal of Wine Research”, women experienced a decreased risk of metabolic syndrome, a cluster of conditions that leads to heart disease if they drank one glass of red wine per day.

Watch Out For Overconsumption

We’ve all been there a time or two or three when that first glass of wine tastes so good that you go for another and another.

A woman’s body processes alcohol, including wine differently than a man’s body.  This means that women get drunk more quickly and show signs of liver damage earlier.  One serving of wine is 5 ounces, says the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.  This amount of wine contains about 120 calories depending on the variety.  A few of those in one night can add up quickly, leading to weight gain and associated health risks.

So ladies, enjoy and savor your red wine in moderation!

Cheers!
